A brief report from the 2007 Australian National Titles at Lake Kurwongbah. Marbleheads. The National Championship was won by Commodore Greg Torpy competing in a fleet of 27 boats. David Turton finished 5th and Josh Torpy finished 9th. A great result for the Mooloolaba Radio Yacht Club!! We have the only National Champion in Queensland at our Club!!! (marblehead results) Had there been a competition for the best competing Club, we would have won that, too! International One Metre. Although the National Championship was retained by Craig Smith, with Paul Jones and Denis McLoughlin as runners up (IOM full results) the performances of our Club members needs special mention! Graeme Bird only just missed out on 3rd place (finishing4th)and Greg Torpy took 6th place. Perhaps the outstanding performance from the club was that of Josh Torpy who finished a few points behind dad to finish 7th!!! Josh's effort was recognized by Craig Smith in his winner's speech and as Josh was probably 10 years younger than the next youngest competitor, to finish so high on the scoreboard was a brilliant performance. Great Work, Josh, we are proud of you!!! With a fleet of this quality, to finish in the top 20 is good, to finish 7th is incredible!!! David Turton and Geoff Wilson also finished in the top 20. Again had there been a prize for the top performing Club, we (MRYC) would have won it easily. To all Club members who sailed, and to those who helped run the National Series, well done! You have all helped maintain our reputation as a top Club!
